The 7-speed Steptronic automatic transmission makes shifting gears exceptionally dynamic. It uses a precision-tuned electronic gear shifting system that offers you a seamless transaction between gears. The selector lever allows you to opt for manual-shift when you want it, or the automatic mode at other times. The Start/Stop function makes driving more economical, too, reducing fuel consumption and emissions.

Our MINI Cooper S model boasts a 7-speed Steptronic sport automatic transmission. Composed of two interlocking, mechanical parts, it shifts to the next gear while the previous one is still active to improve acceleration.

Setting new standards in dynamics and efficiency, our MINI Cooper SD and John Cooper Works models are fitted with an 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission to give you an even smoother, sportier drive. The extra gears reduce the number of revs at high speed to allow optimal power development. Steptronic functionality lets you choose between automatic ease and the thrill of manual shifting. This mode optimises fuel delivery, and disengages your engine when your foot’s off the throttle. Fancy something a bit more, then switch to SPORT mode for more responsive steering and acceleration.
